Living as a Christian: top 25 questions for young adult men

Plain answers to real-life questions, each with a verse, one step to try, and a way to pass it on, because Jesus calls us to make disciples.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations … teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.”Matthew 28:19-20

Answers are broadly orthodox and kept simple. Where Christian traditions differ, we say so. Ask your pastor for your church's teaching. Tap Listen to hear an answer read aloud.

1. What does it mean to be a godly man?

A godly man follows Jesus: he loves God, serves others, keeps his word and takes responsibility. Strength is shown in self-control and sacrificial love, not dominance. Christ is the model.

“Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. Let all your things be done with charity.”1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (KJV)

Try this: Pick one area of life to take responsibility for this month.

Pass it on: Ask an older man to mentor you.

2. How do I know my calling?

Start with what God has already called you to: faithfulness where you are. Look at your gifts, needs around you and counsel from others. Vocation includes work, family, church and community.

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”Colossians 3:23 (KJV)

Try this: Write down your gifts and ask three people what they see in you.

Pass it on: Mentor someone younger in a skill you have.

3. How do I fight lust and pornography?

Porn is a real battle for many men, and you're not alone. Bring it into the light: confess, use accountability and filters, and change habits. Christ forgives completely and gives strength to fight.

“But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”Matthew 5:28 (KJV)

Try this: Install a filter and tell a trusted friend today.

Pass it on: Be an accountability partner for another man.

4. How do I handle money wisely?

Everything belongs to God; we are stewards. Give first, save, avoid debt and live within your means. Generosity breaks money's grip.

“Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:”Proverbs 3:9 (KJV)

Try this: Write a simple monthly budget.

Pass it on: Teach a younger guy how to budget.

5. When should I get married?

There's no perfect age, but marriage requires maturity, faith and commitment. Become the kind of man a godly woman would want to marry. Seek counsel and pray.

“Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.”Proverbs 18:22 (KJV)

Try this: Ask a married couple what prepared them for marriage.

Pass it on: Encourage a friend in a healthy relationship.

6. How do I lead in dating?

Lead with clarity, respect and purity. Be clear about your intentions and protect her heart and honor. Involve wise people around you.

Try this: Plan a date that's honoring and intentional.

Pass it on: Model respect for women among your friends.

7. How do I deal with anger?

Anger isn't always sin, but it easily turns into sin. Slow down, name what's underneath, and talk to God. Seek help if it's hurting others.

“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.”James 1:19-20 (KJV)

Try this: When angry, wait 24 hours before a big reply.

Pass it on: Help a friend talk through a conflict.

8. How do I build real friendships?

Men need deep friendships. Be intentional: show up, ask real questions, share honestly. Church and service are great places to make brothers.

Try this: Visit a church this Sunday and stay for coffee.

Pass it on: Invite a coworker to come with you.

Try this: Set a daily 5-minute prayer alarm.

Pass it on: Ask a friend how you can pray for him.

11. How should I think about work?

Work is a gift and a calling from God, not just a paycheck. Work hard and honestly, as for the Lord. Your job isn't your identity.

Try this: Pray for your coworkers by name.

Pass it on: Be the honest, encouraging one at work.

12. How do I deal with failure?

Failure is part of growing. God uses broken people: Peter, David, Moses. Confess it, receive His forgiveness, and learn from it.

“For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.”Proverbs 24:16 (KJV)

Try this: Write down what you learned from a recent failure.

Pass it on: Encourage a friend who just failed.

13. How do I handle loneliness?

Loneliness is common, even among believers. Reach out first, join a group, and serve. God sets the solitary in families, including the church family.

“God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.”Psalm 68:6 (KJV)

Try this: Invite someone to dinner this week.

Pass it on: Notice the lonely guy at church and say hello.

14. What about gaming and screen time?

Games and screens aren't evil but can steal time and focus. Set limits and prioritize relationships, rest and growth. Ask if it's mastering you.

Try this: Set one boundary at work this week.

Pass it on: Encourage integrity in your team.

19. What if I've walked away from faith?

God's door is open. The prodigal son's father ran to meet him. Come back to God's Word and church; it's never too late.

Try this: Go to church this Sunday.

Pass it on: Reach out to a friend who has drifted.

Try this: Pray for one coworker by name daily.

Pass it on: Offer to pray for a struggling coworker.

21. How do I respond to criticism of Christianity?

Listen first, respond with gentleness and respect. Learn the basics of why Christians believe. You don't need to win every argument.

Try this: Read a short apologetics book.

Pass it on: Discuss a tough question with a friend.

22. How do I handle anxiety about the future?

Jesus says not to worry about tomorrow. Plan wisely but trust God. Talk to someone if anxiety is heavy.

Try this: Write down worries and pray over each.

Pass it on: Encourage a friend who is anxious.

23. What does the Bible say about masculinity?

Biblical manhood is about courage, protection, provision and humility, all modeled by Christ. It's not about stereotypes. Serve like Jesus.

Try this: Do something sacrificial for someone this week.

Pass it on: Model servant leadership for younger guys.

24. How do I serve in my church?

Ask your pastor where help is needed. Use your skills: setup, tech, teaching, ushering. Serving builds belonging.

Try this: Sign up for one serving role.

Pass it on: Invite a friend to serve with you.

25. How do I know I'm saved?

Salvation rests on Christ's work, not your feelings or your choice. God put His name on you in Baptism, speaks forgiveness in His Word, and gives Christ's body and blood in the Supper. Those are promises for you.

“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”1 John 5:13 (KJV)

Try this: Memorize 1 John 5:13.

Pass it on: Share this assurance with a doubting friend.
